National
50 Over Competition
Before
referring to the playing side we must record our thanks and appreciation
to Plympton Cricket Club who did so much to ensure the game went ahead
despite very heavy overnight rain and a further downpour just after the
start. In all honesty there could have been no complaints if the club
had cancelled the game early in the morning.
Thankfully they didn’t and we recorded a convincing first win in
this competition. We lost the toss and endured having to make three starts
due to early rain. Batting was not easy in the conditions and we did well
to post a score of 180 for 6 which included a particularly impressive
innings from Matthew Cooke (55) well supported by Justin Yau (42*) .
This was always going to be difficult for Cornwall and accurate bowling
coupled with keen fielding reduced them to 18 for 6 making their task
even more formidable. They were eventually bowled out for 69 leaving Devon
winners by 111 runs.
