Hampshire were given a steady start of 34 for the first wicket by Ransley and Lloyd but were then reduced to 58 for 4 and 136 for 7 before an excellent partnership between Tapper(44) and Cochran(61) took them to 190 before the 8th wicket fell. A final total of 218 appeared well within Devon’s reach on a good pitch.
Yet again Bess and Bowser gave Devon an excellent start of 73 and thereafter Devon were always in control despite some impressive spin bowling by Hadfield and Ransley. Cooke and Allin had to work hard against the spinners but compiled a match winning 3rd wicket partnership of 95.
This result and Warwickshires draw with Wales on Thursday means that Devon are winners of ECB West Division 1 , CONGRATULATIONS TO ALL THE PLAYERS INVOLVED.
Devon top their group with 90 out of a maximum of 100pts with one game to play against Cornwall. Warwickshire the nearest challengers have completed their fixtures with 89 points. Devon will now take part in the ECB County Championship three way play-offs against the winners of North Div:I and East Div: 1. These groups have not been finalised but at the moment Surrey and Yorkshire look to be likely opponents. The games will take place at Oundle on 12 th ,13 th and 14 th August.
