Cornwall v Devon

Report

A fine century from Heather Knight (103) coupled with an unbeaten 53 from Giselle Ansley saw Devon post 194-4 from their 35 overs. After the long journey to picturesque St Buryan, home of author John Le Carre, Devon won the toss and decided to make best use of what looked like a decent batting track. Together with Celia Hayes, Knight added 50 for the first wicket before Hayes was bowled for 9. Knigth was then joined by Giselle Ansley and together they added 126 in 19 overs. Knight completed a fine century before being run out in an attempt to make the 200 mark. Amara Carr joined Ansley and they added 17 runs in the final 3 overs before Carr was bowled off the last ball of the innings.

The Devon girls set about wrapping up victory by taking early wickets, Giselle completed a fine individual match with 3-9 from 7 overs. Rebecca Donohue bowled very well without much luck and Rebecca Piddock bowled splendidly in taking 1-12 from her seven overs. With wickets falling regularly Cornwall set their sights on picking up batting points and in an effort not to get bowled out defended stoutly. The Devon girls rotated the bowling frequently in an attempt to prise the last couple of wickets. To their credit Cornwall hung on for a second batting point but ultimately lost by 102 runs as the Devon girls go to the Isle of Wight in good heart.
