Devon U13 Girls got off to a great start to the season, by defeating Wiltshire by 67 runs. The sun was shining at Blundell's school where Devon lost the toss and were put into bat. The girls did not disappoint with the bat, as they managed to score 175 in their 30 overs. Lydia Harris 55* and Clair Varcoe 50* both retired out after putting on 80 for the second wicket. Anna Cherrington 13 and Cait O'Keefe 10 were the other top scorers. The great batting display was then backed up by some good bowling and fielding to ensure they sealed the victory. Jessie Jones was the pick of the bowlers for Devon with 2-19 and was well supported by Emily Ward 1-5. After losing early wickets Wiltshire offered some resistance in the middle order with C. Pitman 16 and R. Webb 10, who were both eventually bowled by Cait O'Keefe and Alli Kelly respectively. Devon's fielding at times was excellent, the highlight being Lydia Harris' great one handed catch to dismiss H. Masters for just 1 off the bowling of Rosie Jones. Well done to all the girls for a fantastic start to the year, which should provide some good momentum going into the rest of the season. Many thanks to Blundell's school for an excellent pitch, as well as all of the parents for supplying a wonderful tea. |
