Devon claim ease past local rivals

Devon opted to ask Somerset to bat in the first game of their Under 15 West League double header. Despite some steady batting the visitors struggled to get any momentum into their innings as they lost the influential Sophie Luff with the score on 37. Emily Robinson went with the score on 51 and it was left to Lauren Shrubsole to make 30 and anchor the innings total of 123 which, to be honest, never looked like being enough to trouble Devon.

A bright start was stopped in its tracks as Frances Lausen and Esme Ansley were both dismissed with the score on 19. Amara Carr and Rebecca Bertrand took the score to 46 before Bertrand gave a simple catch, and when Carr was adjudged lbw with the score on 56 the jitters could have set in. Unlike their older counterparts, they held their nerve, in particular Julia Hayes and Rebecca Piddock who made 25 and 24 not out respectively to see Devon home by four wickets with more than seven overs to spare.
