SUPERB BOWLING AND FIELDING BLOW HANTS AWAY
Devon’s Under-17 girls batted first at Axminster’s new ground and got off to a reasonable start as openers Knight and Bowden added 55 for the first wicket. There followed a couple of bizarre run outs that saw Devon pegged back to 81-2 with both openers succumbing. The first ball loss of Rebecca Bertrand was a blow but Amara Carr and Nicole Richards took the score to 106 before Carr was out adjudged lbw and Richards out caught off a suspiciously high ball. Add to that the cheap dismissal of Rebecca Piddock and Devon were in need of some solid batting from the lower order. Rebecca Donohue provided this as she batted through the remainder of the innings for a very mature 23 not out as she guided the tail through to a competitive total of 147 on a pitch that the Devon girls knew would offer some assistance to a strong bowling line-up.
Hampshire never showed up with the bat as Amara Carr had a quite breathtaking start to proceedings as she was involved with the first four wickets, two smart catches behind off Rebecca Donohue and Jodie Dibble, coupled with a smart stumping off Nicole Richards and then a direct hit for a run out to leave Hants reeling at 23-4.nIt did not get any better as Clara Nielson claimed three wickets with Richards picking up 2-13 from eight overs as Hampshire slipped to 49 all out.
