Kent too
strong for Devon girls |
Devon Under 17s travelled to Reading CC for the ECB semi final After winning the toss they decided to bat first on what looke like a decent track. A steady start saw Devon start slowly but the innings was to take a turn for the worse as both openers fell in the space of two overs as Vicky Bowden was adjudged lbw whilst Heather Knight smashed a full toss straight to square leg. Devon tried to re-group but were not helped by at times some quite comical running between the wickets as first skipper Ellie Fielding failed to ground her bat properly and then youngster Amara Carr was called through for a single by Claire Thomas that was never there. Thomas to her credit did try to carry the fight to Kent but wickets kept tumbling as some at times quite iresponsible batting took place as none of the remaining Devon players seemed to come to grasps with the dire situation they were in as the innings capitulated from one disaster to another. Four run outs and two stumpings gives some indication of the way things went. Kent knocked off the required runs in 12.2 overs and progress to the National Finals and leave Devon with a lot of thinking to do if they are serious about playing at this level. |
