Week 8
Plympton St Maurice look now on course to claim their first under 11 League title since 2003, after beating fellow title contenders Yelverton Hurricanes. Plympton elected to bat first and got off to a good start with J.Smith scoring 13 not out. The Hurricanes good bowling did bring them success with 3 wickets in 5 overs but a late on in the innings 14 not out by one of this season must consistent performers M.Borbon, helped move the Plympton tally onto a healthy 242 at the end of the innings. Yelverton's reply did not start well losing 2 quick wickets to the well disciplined Plympton bowlers. M.Borbon 3 for 14 completed another top performance by the young promising Plympton player. This performance proved to be the difference between the two teams as the Hurricanes finished their innings on 202, losing the game by 40 runs.
Plymstock got back to winning ways with a convincing win over Ivybridge Eagles. The Eagles batted first and continued to lose wickets at regular intervals. Plymstock bowler F.Cowen 2 for 7, N.Wills 3 for 15 and S.Hayes 4 for 13 were the pick of the bowlers as they helped reduce the Eagles to just 182 off their 20 overs.
After the break F.Cowen opened the innings and batted well to reach 28 not out, and with Man of the Match S.Hayes completing a good performance by batting his way to a quick fire 27 not out. Plymstock eventually finished their innings on 319 completing a comfortable 141 run victory.
Plympton St Mary was left still searching for their first win of the season, after losing to Cornwood Dels.
St Mary's won the toss and asked Cornwood Dels to bat first. After a good start to the innings by B.Griffith 10 N.Bell 11 not out and H.Fitzpatrick 13 not out, was then followed up by a clean hitting innings from J.Richardson who blasted his way to 25 not out. Cornwood finished their innings on 323 with M.Crumley 2 for 31 being the pick of the Plympton bowlers. After the change over St Mary's J.Smith 13 not out helped push the score up towards the Dels final total, but final bowling figures of 2 for 11 by M.Hill and a good tight spell by N.Bell 1 for 9 of 3 overs pegged back the St Mary's batters. St Mary's went on to finish their innings on 256, losing the game by 67 runs.
Week 13
The league title looks to be sawn up as Plympton St Maurice moved with in one game of claiming the Under 11 league title, following a 11th league victory over Yelverton Mosquitoes. Plympton St Maurice won the toss and decided to bat first. The
Plympton St Maurice also book their place in the Under 11 cup final to be played at Whitchurch Wayfarers ground on September 7th after beaten close rivals Plymouth Peverell. Plympton batted first and found themselves in trouble early on as Plympton St Maurice Danger-man M.Borbon being run and for only 3. This was quickly followed by the wicket of K.Cooper. A good partnership of 70 by D.Hussey 20 and M.Singh 25 not out helped the score along to a respectable final total as Plympton concluded their innings on 98 for 5.
In reply a good innings by Lewis Edmonds 25 not out and D. Goodey 23 helped push the game into into the last over with both teams looking for victory in a tight conclusion. Plympton St Maurice managed to hold their nerve as
Plympton now wait for the winners of the other Semi Final contest that sees 5th placed Ivybridge Falcons take on 3rd placed Yelverton Hurricanes.
Week 14
For the second week the rain took its toll on the league fixtures. The past two weeks has seen only 3 fixtures complete and 11 games called off due to the rain. Yelverton Hurricanes did manage to beat the weather ending their League season on a high after beating Ivybridge Eagles. The victory confirmed Yelverton to 3rd place in the league one place lower then they finished last year. Yelverton batted first and made a solid start with J.David-Ward scoring a unbeaten 18 to help move his team onto a final total of 285.In reply Ivybridge could not keep at bay the Yelverton bowlers, and soon found themselves falling behind the required total. Yelverton bowlers M.Smith 2 for 4, J.Watt 2 for 7 and R.Lopes 2 for 11 all produced good figures as they reduced Ivybridge to a final score of 162 handing their opponent a 123 run victory.
In last week only other game Plympton St Maurice victory sees them lay one hand on the league title. Plympton will need to win their last league game to win the title outright as a loss could let Plymouth Peverell in to share the title.Plympton St Maurice won the toss and decided to bat first, the Cornwood Girls bowlers did not take long to claimed their first wicket, but the league leaders soon thought back with D.Hussey 15 not out batting well. One of Plympton St Maurice most influential M.Borbon then produced a late 18 not out well being back up by K.Cooper 17 not out. This late flourish of runs helped push the final batting total onto a impressive 305.
Cornwood Girls went into bat knowing they had to keep their wickets intact to stand any chance of chase down the big total set for them. The chase down became even harder as the Cornwood batters lost wickets all to often. Plympton bowler M.Singh was the pick of the bowlers as as he recorded figures of 4 for 2 as Plympton reduced the girls to a final total of 123 to complete the victory by big margin of 182 runs.
