F Division - Waters ton helps Kerswell to narrow win

KINGSKERSWELL can clinch promotion from the F Division by beating Cherition Fitzpaine on the Playing Fields this Saturday.
The Villagers chalked up victory number 14 against Chardstock last Saturday – Steve Waters cracking 103 on the way to knocking off 283 to win – as Kerswell went 48 points clear at the top.
One point will ensure promotion – 19 will secure the title ahead of Cullompton.
The Chardstock batters flayed the Kerswell attack to all parts with chief run getters Shane Strawbridge (78) and Rob Hutchings (109) in devastating form.  It was the first time any club had posted more than 200 against Kingskerswell this season and the daunting total came despite a tight opening spell by Pieter Douglas who only went for 31 off his nine overs.
Chardstock must have felt the hard work was done but Kerswell never believed the total was beyond them.
The first wicket partnership of 96 between Nigel Butt (25) and Steve Waters (103) got things off to the perfect start.
Rere then followed another good partnership between Waters and Erik Gregersen (56) during the course of which Waters completed his maiden league 100.
With three overs to go a further 24 runs were needed with the last pair, John Elliott, and Phil Lacey at the crease.
An incredible final over saw Phil Lacey smash the biggest six of the day on to the club gouse roof before stroking the last ball to the boundary to complete a remarkable triumph.
Chelston need a win over Buckland Monachorum this Saturday after losing by four wickets to Tiverton and surrendering second spot behind Kerswell in the process.
Ben Briscoe made 25 of Chelston’s 80 all out. John Hall (25) top scored for Tiverton on the chase, although Briscoe, Rob Bennett and Kazi Szymanski ensured it was no cakewalk with two wickets each.
Cullompton went seven points ahead of Chelston in second on the strength of their 204-run win over lowly Lifton.
