IN MEMORIAM OF RICHARD HAWKINS A TRUE CLUBMAN
It is with great sadness and shock that we have to announce the sudden and unexpected death of Richard Hawkins, who was a life honorary member of Cullompton Cricket Club. All our thoughts are with Angie and his family at this distressing time.
Richard had been a member of our club for many years, and was a very good cricketer. Only last season he captained the 2nd XI and had done so for a number of years. He was well respected on the cricket “circuit” throughout Devon. Those of us who were fortunate enough to play with him will fondly remember his commitment and sportsmanship.
Richard’s family was immensely important to him, and they accompanied him at all matches, acting as tea ladies, bar staff, scorers and substitutes if we were short. This was a huge factor in creating a true family atmosphere at our club.
Richard was also the lead in carrying out many of our club house improvements over the past five years and he gave freely of his time and expertise, sometimes at unearthly hours, using his excellent skills as a carpenter to ensure everything was done properly and professionally. The work he did is there for all to see and has received nothing but plaudits from all who use the facilities.
Richard will be very sadly missed by all of us at the club, but we are determined that his loyalty and commitment will be remembered and recognised. His funeral service will be at Taunton Crematorium on Tuesday 15 April at 12.30pm.
