Green off to Bangladesh with England U19s

Ben Green spent his final Sunday Academy session at the County Ground before heading off with the England squad to the Under 19 World Cup in Bangladesh.

The 17 year old, who plays for Exeter, grew up through the Devon age groups before joining the Somerset Academy at the County Ground. Last summer he became the youngest ever Devon player to score a century in Minor Counties cricket, taking a ton off Cornwall at Truro.

The all-rounder enjoyed a successful trip to Sri Lanka with England Under-19s before Christmas, about which he said: “I really enjoyed it and its always better when the team plays well so it was great. George (Bartlett) and Ryan (Davies) also both did well so all the Somerset boys did pretty well.

“It’s always nice to get both runs and wickets for the team and I was happy with the way that I played on the trip.

“Before I went out to Sri Lanka my shins were absolutely fine. They flared up a bit when I was out there in the last game I played but they have settled down again so hopefully they will good for the World Cup.”

“We are off on Wednesday evening firstly to Dubai for five days where we play a warm up game against South Africa before we then head to Chittagong where we play two more warm up matches against Bangladesh and Namibia and then we are into the World Cup.”

“This is fantastic and a once in a lifetime opportunity so I want to make sure that I make the most of it and I am very happy indeed to be going.”

Looking ahead to the summer the young all-rounder said: “I need to string together some good performances and then you never know what might happen.”
