F Division - Pitch switch suits leaders

KINGSKERSWELL will be looking to maintain their flying start to the season when Woodbury visit the Playing Fields this Saturday.

For the 20 points gained beating Culmstock last Saturday took Kerswell to the top of the table.

Chelston were top of the table but not any longer as their match at Lifton was cancelled and both sides took six points.

The game started in unusual circumstances as both teams agreed that the wicket that had been prepared was unplayable because of overnight rain.

A fresh strip was hastily prepared but losing the toss could easily have been a fatal blow for Kingskerswell on what looked likely to be a very difficult batting surface.

After getting through the first 10 overs with only 20 runs on the board with no wickets down, Kerswell flourished to reach 238 for three in a reduced 40-over contest.

Stand-out performances came from chairman Steve Waters (89no), Erik Gregersen (46) and Steve Lacey who struck a lusty 39 not out.

Culmstock got to 58 for none before subsiding to 59 for three. They then recovered again to look as if they might be able to mount a challenge at 132 for three.

Two quick wickets from skipper Chris Hurrell (5-41) put paid to their chase with only Ross Stickland (46) making a significant contribution in a total of 161.
