HATERHERLEIGH take on Paignton looking to get over that loss against Brixham.Skipper Mark Lake makes two changes, bringing in Rob Chapman and Andy Collier. Tom Rogers and Danny Forrester miss out
Said Lake: “We know this will be difficult against a Paignton side who have started very strongly.
“We need to try and make our home games count.
“The league is very tight so putting a couple of wins together shoots you up the table.
Paignton skipper Connor Bryan welcomes back Oli Higgs into a side that can’t put a foot wrong right now.
“We had a good win in the Torbay T20 over Barton on Wednesday,” said Bryan.
“The team’s really playing well at the moment and confidence is really high.”
Hatherleigh are at home to Exmouth in the cup on Sunday.
“We have half of our 1st Xi missing that play on Saturdays so have had to bring in a few 2nd XI players,” said Lake.
BARTON go to Sandford with some simple advice from skipper Adam Parker ringing in their ears.
“We need to score runs up top and give away less extras,” said parker.
“If we get the basics correct then we will start to string some good results together.”
Andy McVeigh isn't available but, otherwise, Parker has a full squad to pick from.
BRIXHAM’S new found form faces a test as they entertain leaders Heathcoat.
For captain Richard Ward winning at Hatherleigh after two defeats was a sign Brixham are turning the corner after a worrying start.
"For two matches and five overs it had been a struggle – then 45 overs later we looked to be in a much better place," said Ward.
"Under the new rules this season I could not see us losing with 276 on the board.
"Now we have to take things forward, starting against Heathcoat."
PLYMSTOCK, at home to Braunton, have firmly put behind them last week’s seven-wicket defeat at Abbotskerswell.“We were poor from start to finish, we all know this isn’t acceptable in this division and we are all raring to go this Saturday to put on the sort of performance we should be offering at this standard,” said vice-captain James Nicholls.
“Back-to-back scores of 120 and 92 all out are not good enough and aren't going to win you very many games of cricket.
“Batting wise we need to think clearly and know our roles within the team. With the line-up we have we should be posting more than 200 most weeks.
“We need to bat time and realise how long 50 overs is. Then we will be posting good scores and winning games of cricket.
“The only positive to take from last week was a fantastic opening spell from Hal Kerton (2-14) who bowled with great pace, control and late movement.”
“Braunton have struggled so far and we are looking to get our season up and running again.
“We know they will put in 100 per cent as they are aiming for their first win, so we need to play positive cricket as a team and look to control the game.”
'Bowling wise I am not concerned. Our attack looks strong and will only be boosted by the return of Dave Orchard week. H will also offer middle order stability, which can only be a good thing for us.”
Plymstock make two changes this week with Josh Hocken and Steve Coomber missing out and Dave Orchard and Callum Cload coming in.
“Callum will offer middle order runs and is a very exciting young prospect for us, so these changes have only made us stronger,” said Nicholls.
PLYMPTON, at home to Abbotskerswell, can’t afford to become complacent according to skipper Jeremy Williams.
Last Saturday’s win at Barton was Plympton’s second in three starts – good shooting by most standards.
Williams sees it differently though and isn’t afraid to say so.
“We beat Hatherleigh thanks to a great knock from Wes Hartslief – and he was the difference between the two sides,” said Williams.
“At Barton last Saturday we had them 130 for nine and let their last pair put on 60 – and that shouldn’t have happened.
“Although we are winning games – and I can’t knock that – we are not doing it convincingly. That needs to change.”
Plympton will have opener Andy Walter back in the side for Alex Carr in the only change of personnel.
Sunday sees Plympton face Plymstock at Harewood House in the first round of the Devon Cup.
Walter will take charge of the side as Williams and vice-captain Josh Mailling are not available. With Dave Wrench also missing, Plympton call up Dom Mulbery, Todd Rossow and Jamie Lee.
“Dom, Todd and Jamie are all decent young cricketers coming up through the second team,” said Williams.
“A cup game against Plymstock is a good chance to give all three a go at a better level and see how they get on.”
