F Division: Kerswell march on at top

CHARDSTOCK skipper Rob Hutchings cracked his second successive Francis Clark Devon League century as his side claimed a 60-run win at Buckland.

Hutchings stroked a magnificent 130 and got excellent support from Tom Strawbridge who weighed in with 47 in a team total of 288-4 declared.

It’s the first time that the Chardstock skipper has struck back-to-back Devon League centuries. He said: “To be fair this was nothing like the previous weeks ton. I was given a couple of lives by some dropped catches. The idea had been to get as many as we could and declare in a bid to bank the extra two points and that’s just how it panned out for us.”

The home side made a decent fist of the reply, but wickets fell at regular intervals, the final one going down at 228 to leave Chardstock winners for the second successive Saturday. Richard Pyman claimed a six wicket haul.

Hutchings said: “At one stage they looked well set to chase our score, but we got wickets at the right time, particularly when James Hayden snared their top scorer, that was the key wicket.”

Next up for Hutchings and his side is a trip to Culmstock on Saturday. What chance of a third century? Hutchings says: “I’ll be trying of course, that really would be something special.”

KINGSKERSWELL march on at the top of the F Division with their sixth consecutive victory and another 20 points.

Kingskerswell stacked up the runs with Steve Waters (87) and Erik Gregersen (61) putting on 126 for the second wicket.

Skipper Chris Hurrell (46no) ensured the Kerswell total was an intimidating one of 300 for six.

Most effective of the Lifton bowlers was Pete Wilton who took four for 53 in his eight overs.

The Lifton response started badly with Pieter Douglas (2 for 30) and Phil Lacey (1 for 26) reducing them very quickly to 20 for 3.

Pete Wilton (33) and Tyler Volz (25) stemmed the tide for a while before Erik Gregersen (3 for 35), and Hurrell (3 for 56) mopped things up at the end.

Lifton’s eventual total of 151 all out meant that Kerswell had completed yet another overwhelming victory.

The victory sees Kerswell open up a 21 point lead at the top of the F Division.
