B Division - Dollow looking to get run going
CAN Shobrooke Park beat Thorverton in the Mid-Devon derby and make it three in a row

Skipper Justin Dollow certainly hopes so!

Wins over Alphington and Barnstaple got Shobrooke up and running after a patchy start to the season.

As Thorverton are enjoying mixed fortunes right now, Dollow is confident but not over doing it.

The spirit in the dressing room is the best I have seen for some years so we are confident we will perform as we would expect,” said Dollow.

“We will not take anything for granted with this opposition as they are a far better side than their results have shown so far this season.

“I expect this will be a close game and hopefully we can continue our current form, which should lead to a positive result for us.”

Mike Searle is back from football duty which strengthens the team in the absence of Cliff Dare who it is expect will be out for a few more weeks due to injury.

Gwilliam Crouch is back at school, so Russell Hilton comes in to open the bowling for Thorverton.

Ali Fury replaces the absent skipper James Hope so Dave Baldock will lead the team.

STOKE Gabriel hadn’t won until the beat Thorverton last Saturday – now captain Josh Dowling is looking for more of the same against Tavistock.

“It's great to have the first win on the board.

“We played an exciting brand of cricket and that is what we plan to do for the rest of the year.

“Our batting options improve again this week with Jack Tolley and Kris Davies coming into the side.

“Nick Sandbrook is back from groin surgery, which will also help our bowling stocks.

“Tavistock are obviously at the top of the tree and from reports coming from other captains, it’s a much deserving position.

“For us there is a fantastic buzz around the club at the moment, it’s amazing what a win can do.

Alphington will be giving a debut to new signing Neil Maud when they make the short trip to Chudleigh.

Maud was playing in the First Division of the Bristol & District League last season but moved down to the area in the winter.

“He has bowled really well for the 2nd XI and deserves his chance,” said Alphas skipper Stuart Shaw.

Alphington need a win to start pulling away from the wrong end of the table before they become a permanent fixture there.

Shaw says he is encouraged by the effort the team are putting in.

“The team have showed in the past two weeks we are not far away from our next win,” said Shaw.

“Our younger players I have looked to this season are showing great promise for the future.

This week’s trip to Chudliegh will be another good test for us; they have some really good players in their side.

“Whatever the outcome my team will give 100 per cent and as a skipper that’s all you can ask for!”

Shaw had been looking forward to playing against his former Chudleigh team-mate Sean Day, but he was injured against Lewdown last Saturday and won’t feature,

Skipper Jon Martin welcomes back Jack Vittles, Jack Thomas and Dan Britcliffe, none of whom played in the loss to Lewdown.

Day, Matt Dowrick and Matt Hookway aer out.

“We are looking to get back on track after losing for the first time,” said Martin.

“We've gone away and talked a few things over to see if we can put more runs on the board and really get ourselves in front of games.”

Ivybridge have a new face in their side for the home game against Barnstaple.

Young keeper George Thompson has come over from Cornwood and replaces Kevin Jacobs behind the stumps.

“We been without a keeper this year with batsmen Kevin Jacobs standing in and doing job,” said Bridgers’ captain Gareth Andrews.

“Don't know a great deal about B&P but sure the game will be a close one.”

Lewdown will be red-hot favourites to win at South Devon, who are winless after five defeats on the spin.

“Only leaders Tavistock have bested Lewdown this season so a challenging afternoon is on the cards for JontyParsons and his men.

Lewdown struggled to beat Chudleigh last time out and skipper Harry Geering wants to see a more clinical edge to their play.

Ade Edmonds is in for Phil Yeo and Devon youngster Tallen Burns replaces Gary Sizmur who is unavailable.

“We still havn’t performed anywhere near our best, but are four out of five, which can’t be bad,” he said.

“W need to start finishing teams off as we keep getting into very good positions in the game but seem to let off teams a bit.

“Fielding must improve but other than that we are very happy where we are and hopefully can keep our good run going.”
