Devon turn to Plymouth opener Toms

JAMES Toms’ form with the bat has been recognised by the Devon selectors with a place in the side to face Wales at Usk.
Toms has cracked two tons in six starts for Plymouth in the Premier Division this year in response to a tip from Devon team boss Keith Donohue to pile up the runs if he wanted a place in the side.
Devon’s early order batting is in a bit of a mess as regulars Rob Woodman, Rob Holman and Seb Benton all missing for the three-day game starting on Sunday.
Dononhue, the former Plymouth and Plympton all-rounder in charge of Devon for the first time this season, said he was delighted to give Toms his chance.
“James has been on the radar for a number of years as a prolific run scorer in league cricket, but this season he seems to have moved up a gear,” said Donohue.
“Devon are a strong batting side so it is difficult to break in, but the chance is there for him now and I hope he takes it,.”
