SHALDON batsman Seamus McKenna’s purple patch continued with another display of big hitting in a South Devon League game against Topsham St James.

McKenna has lashed tons in the Devon League and the Thomas Trophies T20 this season – usually in pretty quick time.

Against Topsham he didn’t quite reach a century, but 85 off 64 balls is still a decent knock.

Unfortunately, McKenna could not do it all on his own and Shaldon lost by 74 runs.

Shaldon’s problem was that seven batsmen failed to score a run between them – Topsham’s Nick Horne performing a hat-trick at the height of the carnage.

By the time McKenna and Glyn Ballman put on 43 for the ninght wicket, the game has already got away from Shaldon.
