F Division - Kerswell into double figures

KINGSKERSWELL can probably start counting down to promotion if they defeat Exeter Civil Service this Saturday.

The villagers are already 34 points clear of second-placed Cullompton and 41 in front of Civil who are one of the two realistic challengers left in the promotion race.

The other is Chelston, who are deadlocked on 156 points with Civil after their win at Cheriton last time out.

Kerswell are ten out of ten at the top having beating Tiverton & Bickleigh by eight wickets.

Kerswell’s opening bowlers have proved difficult to get away all season and after their spells concluded the Tiverton innings was struggling at 56 for four.

Steve Lacey took two for 25 and Pieter Douglas one for 27 plus a run out/

Whenchange bowlers Chris Hurrell and Paul Harding came on, Tiverton tried to accelerate.

Instead they lost five wickets for 21 runs with Harding proving to be almost unplayable taking 4 for 6 off his 4 overs.

Ellis Denega (1-10) and Dan Elliott (1-7) wrapped up at the end and a total of 94 was never going to trouble the Kerswell batters on an immaculate surface.

Openers Steve Waters (41) and Mike Etherington (30no) did most of the hard work.

The most effective Tiverton bowler was Matt Hodson who took two for 17.

Chelston, at home to Newton St Cyres next time out, were seven-wicket winners at Cheriton.

Russ Bennett was the pick of the bowlers with three for 18 as Chelston dismissed the Cherries for 156.

Stephen Davis led the run chase with 43, assisted by Ben Briscoe with 30 and Mark Faulkner on 26 not out.
