THERE are some interesting selections in the Devon League XI to play the Devon Lions at Paignton tomorrow (1pm).
The fixture clashes with the latter stages of the East and West Devon T20 competitions, as well as a Minor Counties game involving Devon, which has ruled out some of the usual suspects.
League XI team manager see that as an opportunity to show off some of the talent in lower divisions of the competition, and expose those players to a better level of cricket.
Among the League XI selections is Shaldon Seamus McKenna, who has been racking up the runs in all forms of cricket this season.
Three centuries in T20 cricket, plus another in the D Division for his club, suggest a talent for batting that would not look out of place higher up the league ladder.
Tom Drake, an all-rounder having a breakthrough season with Barton, gets a game, as does Jamie Stevens from Tavistock.
Jacob Hand, a keeper-batter playing for Babbacombe in the E Division, is another player from lower down the divisions rated highly by his club and opponents.
The Lions have fine tuned the side in places as Rob Bennett (Plymouth) and Josh Mailling (Plympton) have dropped out.
Bennett’s place has gone to North Devon seamer Paul Heard, who has been among the wickets regularly this season.
Lions director of coaching Tim Western likes the look of Heard as he swings the ball late.
