Ottery St Mary banked a full house of points with an eight wicket win in their home East Devon derby against Whimple. Rob Johns (4-13), Rob Crabb (3—3) and Mark Woodman (2-31) combined to bundle the visitors out for 71 inside 33 overs.

Sam Tennent (44no) and Jack Pritchard (22no) then put on 65 for the unbroken third wicket  after the first two wickets in the chase went down for just 10 runs.

For Ottery, it’s a case of needing four points from their final day game at a Whitchurch side who head into that match desperate for points to avoid relegation.

For Whimple it’s a case of them going into the final day with their place in the D Division not secure.

If Whitchurch surprise Ottery and Halberton match the Whimple haul then Whimple would go down with Bridestowe.

 FENITON have taken their promotion battle to the final day after their last away game of the season saw them win by seven wickets at Countess Wear.

The Exeter side batted first and were restricted to 124-9 with only Pete Darke making much of an impression with 29.

It was Feniton’s Dan Clarke who took the honours with the ball. Called up from the second team to replace Adi Pullin who opted to pay football, Clarke claimed six wickets for 28 runs in a spell of 13 overs and he also played a part in another wicket with a fine catch!

Graham Tucker then top scored in the run chased with 29 and Charlie Selley struck a valuable 18.

Feniton skipper Mark Kingdon said: “I’m pleased we have taken it to the final day, the odds are against us and, if it is to be a case of so near yet so far, then we’ll dust ourselves down and come back next year for another go. The target is always to do better than the year before and this season we have done just that with more points and a higher finish.
