BRADNINCH were on the receiving end of a career-best performance from Plymouth veteran Phil Barrow that sent them tumbling to an 81-run defeat.
Barrow, 42, has been wheeling away for Plymouth for years but never taken seven for 36 in a league game before.
Plymouth, who were 38 for four, were rescued in the first instance by James Nicholls (26) and Gareth Hart (21) in a stand of 44.
Jake Foley cracked 40 not out from 25 balls as Plymouth reached 148 for seven. Phil Chappell had three for 39.
Barrow set the tone for the second innings when he knocked over opener Nick Dean’s leg-stump.
Richard McPherson (3-21) took two in a row, then Barrow really got to work.
Rob Acton’s 13 was the only score in double figures as Bradninch dipped to 67 all out.
SIDMOUTH seem determined to go down fighting if their five-wicket win over Tavistock is anything go by.
Having gone 10 games without a win, Sidmouth have now won three of the last four.
It is probably too late to stave off the drop as Sidmouth have 42 points to find somewhere to get out of the bottom two.
At least the threat of going down winless has been removed, which will be some consolation for skipper Mike Dibble.
Tavvy were 60 for two thanks to Jamie Stephens (23) and Matt Witcher (33), lost three wickets on 68 and crashed to 107 all out with Sidmouth’s Dominic Bess spinning away for six for 25. Charlie Dibble (3-27) ushered out most of the rest.
Stephens (2-24) and Witcher (2-13) then had Sidmouth labouring at 25 for four. Henry Gater (54no) and Graham Munday (22) saw Sidmouth through the danger.
EXMOUTH had Braunton on the ropes but lacked the killer punch to put them on the canvas and had to settle for a winning draw.
Dan Waistell (74) and Stuart Cross (50) put on 124 for the fourth wicket to take Exmouth to 152 on the way to 196 for eight.
Keiran Jerrett with five for 48 was Braunton’s leading bowler. Jack Spicer (3-58) showed up well.
Braunton meandered to 143 for nine in reply with Tom Robotham (54no) going in at 12 for one and staying there.
Mike Cliff (3-34), Toby Ingham (2-21) and Matt Tarry (2-37) exposed last man Chris Brigden with five overs to go, but were unable to shift him.
SANDFORD saw off Chudleigh by four wickets in a mid-table game at Creedy Park.
Chudleigh laboured to 111 for seven against Gary Abdoll (4-59) and Brian Leach (2-24), then slipped the shackles for a while as Barry Griffiths (24) and Matt Ball (24) put on 56.
A target of 179 to win was knocked off with five overs to go as Leach (46) and Shaun Hawkins (38) got going.
Ben Hancock (22no) and Jason Matten (13no) saw Sandford over the line.
BARTON are back up to second in the A Division after overturning relegation-threatened Plymstock by five wickets.
Julian Brailey (55) saved Plymstock from total collapse after Alex Hunt (6-35) and Dave Palmer (2-30) reduced them to 69 for six.
Steve Lewis, unable to travel with the 1st XI to Albbotskerswell, then belted a quick 61 to speed Barton to victory.
Barton are 53 points behind leaders Exmouth, who visit them this Saturday, and five ahead of third-placed Sandford.
Promotion is a real possibility, although captain Mike Lievesley isn’t convinced Barton are ready for it.
“It is a question of availability, or lack of it,” said Lievesley.
“The team changes every week and while we have some cracking lads coming on I am not sure they are ready for week in, week out in the Premier Division yet.”
