A Division 2nd XI: Bradninch run out of players

  A Div 2nd XI

BRADNINCH’S promotion chances were snuffed out once and for all when they could not raise a side to go to Tavistock.

After a clutch of late call offs on Saturday morning, skipper Phil Chappell had to ring opposite number John McGahey and say: ‘sorry – we can’t make it’.

Bradninch official Chris Dean said: “When the time came to leave we only had seven left – and you need eight to start.”

Tavistock’s 20-point booty keeps them in second place behind champions Exmouth, whose game against visiting Sandford fell foul of the weather.

Relegated Sidmouth beat Chudleigh by five wickets, which ended the Kate Brook side’s slender promotion prospects.

Tom Chapman ran through Chudleigh’s batting en route to figures of four for 21. Ian Thomas and Charlie Dribble mopped up for between them as Chudleigh were bowled out for 103.

Take out Paul Sercombe’s 21 and Matty Ball’s 20 and there wasn’t a lot from the rest.

Mike Dibble (32) and Declan Lines (23) saw off Graeme Wilson (16-8-18-2) and Ben Ripley (2-47) to clinch victory.

Barton sit third in the table five points behind Tavistock after dismantling Plymouth 3rd XI by 100 runs.

Barton – 20 for three then 45 for four – got going thanks to Dave Palmer (40) and Luke Adderley (40) putting on 62.

Nathan Beech (26) chipped in towards a total of 175 for nine.

Richard Gill (4-52) and Rob McPherson (3-36) were Plymouth’s leading bowlers.

Alex Hunt took three for 23 as Barton dismissed Plymouth for 75 in reply. Palmer, Adderley and Peter Gartrell had two wickets each as the last five went for just eight runs combined!

Waleed Iqbal was Braunton’s match winner in the one-wicket win over visiting Plymstock.

Plymstock, who needed a win to stop Brauntpon getting away from them in the scrap to avoid going down with Sidmouth, were held to 153 for six – Ed Lockett unbeaten on 34.

Star man with the ball for Branton with four for 20 off 11 overs was Chris Brigden.

Ted Cumming (37) held Braunton’s innings together under pressure from Lee Savage (3-41) and Rob Baker (3-23).

The last over arrived with five needed to win and last pair iqbal and Brigden in the middle.

Iqbal hit the final ball for six to condemn Plymstock to a defeat which almost certainly puts them down.

Two points at Chudleigh this Saturday will save Braunton’s skins.
