B Division 2nd XI: Stoke up despite defeat

B DIVISION 2nd XI

 ABBOTSKERSWELLL edged out Stoke Gabriel by four wickets in a thriller at the Eastleigh Fields.

Stoke made 146 for seven thanks largely to Neil Robinson (36), Jamie Day (19) and Angus Lee (18),

Abbots scraped home with two balls to spare with Guy Harrison-Roberts making 54 and Sean Green 20.

Stoke Gabriel, won’t have been too disappointed by the result though as the five points earned ensured they could not be caught for the second promotion place by Brixham.

Bideford 2nd XI were the latest team to fall by they wayside when they ran into B Division 2nd XI champions Heathcoat.

Sean Andrews cracked 84 – he and Graham Clatworthy (42) put on 90 for the fifth wicket – as Heathcoat put up 241 for nine in 46 overs.

Alex Crisp bagged six wickets for 46 runs for Bideford.

Ed Binns (530 and Crisp (32) then hauled Bideford out of the mire after they had been 67 for five with a stand worth 77 which got the score up to 144.

It was downhill all the way after that with Darron Drew (2-31) and Martyn Williams (2-34) backing up Harry McDowell as Bideford bowed out for 177 and lost by 64 runs.

Alphington were on the receiving end of a five-wicket reversal when they travelled t Brixham.

Richard Cousens (44) and Steve Hathaway (43) put on 81 for the second wicket in Alphington’s total of 184 all out.

Tim Robinson (2-53 from eight) was carted around a bit but Phil Hyde (2-14), Rhys Dallow (3-33) and 14-year-old spinner Sam Turner (2-3) did the bowling business for Brixham.

Robinson (22no) was in at the end as he and Joe Hyde (72no) took Brixham to victory.

Earlier, Dallow (22) and Hyde had out put on 68 for the fourth wicket.

Jack Webber (3-46) nicked the bowling honours for Alphington.

The game between Shobrooke Park and Kingsbridge was called off.

Young all-rounder Jonty Parsons had a cracking game for South Devon 2nd XI in their 50-run win over relegated Yelverton;

Parsons smote 67 and there was a 48 not out from veteran left-hander Brian Allen as Soth Devon made it to 190 for six.

Parsons then took three for 20 in support of spinner Ian Shepherd (4-29) as Yelverton were bowled out for 140.

Skipper Chris Pearson moved up the order to open the batting and mad a handy 34. Son Ben made 23.
