C Division 2nd XI: Pens take title

2nd XI C Division

IPPLEPEN II went into their final game knowing that if they banked a maximum points haul with a win over visiting Axminster III then they would be going up to the B Division next summer as champions.

They did that, and with something to spare, winning by six wickets. Simon Harris (3-27) and Steve Bowden (2-14) combined to bowl Axminster out for 139.

Max Farrow top scored for the East Devon side with 36. Simon Tapley then hit an unbeaten 64 to lead the hosts to a six-wicket win and the promotion double.

Ottery St Mary II knew they had to win and hope Ipplepen slipped up to land the title to sit nicely with their already won 2nd XI C Division promotion berth.

The Otters were emphatic 126-run winners over Clyst Hydon with young Sam Loud playing a fine all-round role.

Loud first top scored with 63 and there was a fine unbeaten 50 from Nick Forbes as well as an unbeaten 33 from Robert Bradshaw-Smith as the Otters posted a score of 231-6.

Lee Morgan (2-30) and Duncan Sykes (2-53) claimed wickets for Clyst Hydon II who were then bowled out for just 105.

Clint Holmes hit 27 and Matthew Fitt chipped in with 25 but the ball bossed the post tea proceedings with Loud claiming 3-21 and Bradshaw-Smith taking three wickets for just four runs.

Kevin Coe (72), Alan Welsh (57) and Steve May (50) led Clyst St George II to a respectable 277-6 at home to Thorverton II.

Marc Shaw claimed 3-65 for the Thors who then replied with 200-7. Harry Choules top scored with 74 and skipper Alan Birmingham weighed in with 63. Mithun Banik Mazumder took 3-48 for the Bohea Field side.

Matt Clark hit 71 to lead Barnstaple and Pilton to 206-5 at Ivybridge.

Keith Sexton claimed 3-41 for the Bridgers who were then bowled out for 126 with only Tim Hall making any progress with 26 as Nick Rowe bagged a fivefer, finishing with figures of 5-18 and the victory means Barum finish third in the table.

Chris Fell and Jason Williams hit identical knocks of 53 to lead Plymouth Civil Service and Roborough II to 250 all out in their final game of the season.

Nigel O’Hea took 5-40 for visiting Cornwood III who then closed on 113-9. Phil Bees top scored with 28 and there was a splendid innings of 19 from 12-year-old Jessie Jones. Becky Piddock took 4-34 and Chris Newton claimed 4-34 for the victorious hosts.
