D East: Honiton hold on tight

HONITON II maintained their hold on top spot in the D Division East 2nd XI with a four-wicket win in a low-scoring affair at home to Axminster III.

Dan Bicknell (43) and Sean Perry (40) were the principle run scorers for the visitors as Joe Dixon claimed 5-19. Harry Wright took 3-40 as the Cloakham Lawn  outfit were bowled out for 128.

Skipper Andrew Lapping led his side to the brink of success, finally, last man out for a splendid 53. Cousin Craig Lapping chipped in with an unbeaten 28 and Andy Brinsford (6no) was at the other end when the victory was sealed. Sam Farrow claimed 3-46 for the defeated visitors.

Whimple II went down again, beaten this time by five wickets by visiting Kentisbeare II.

 Simon Van Grudgings (72), Luke Witton (37() and Will Bardot (27) led Whimple to 228 with Andy Hazeldine taking 3-35 for Kentisbeare.

Gary Farley (82), Neil Farley (67) and Gary Benzie (38) led the successful run chase, completed on 231-5. Alex Evens took 2-20 for the hosts.

Uplyme and Lyme Regis II were five-wicket winners at home to Exmouth III.

Skipper Tom Sampford top scored with 49 before holing out to a stunning catch at square leg.

Russ Coombes hit 24 but wickets tumbled, the final one at 95 as Ali Rattenbury claimed 4-15 and Jack Lamb-Wilson bagged a brace.

The hosts were led to victory by Dave Norman (32) and Oli Borgeat (32). Stuart hart claimed three of the wickets to fall for the visitors.

Sean Devine (62) and Francis Pyle (32no) were the principle run scorers for Feniton II in their 175-5 against North Devon 3rd XI.  Joe Kelly took 3-31 for North Devon, who then raced to a five wicket win, led by Mark Smith (70). Stuart Bright took 3-37 for the Acland Park side.
