D Division East: Honiton 11 points from title

 

D East 2nd XI reports

SEAN Devine (69) and Andy Vickery (33) led Feniton II to a five wicket Acland Park win over Countess Wear II.

Matt Davies had earlier taken 4-42 as the Exeter side were restricted to 217-6 with Baxter (52) top scoring. Brown claimed 4-40 for the Civil Servants.

Honiton II go into their final game of the season on Saturday at home to Exmouth III knowing that if they bank eleven points then they will be champions and claim the one promotion place available in the D Division East 2nd XI.

Andy Brinsford hit an unbeaten 33 and Steve Rampaul chipped in with 29 in a Honiton total of 163-9. Barry Wright led by example for the hosts, the Whimple skipper taking 3-43 but the home side, Steve Palfrey apart, failed collectively with the bat and were bundled out for 88. Palfrey’s fine innings accounted for 66 of the 88 runs as Richard Hill took 4-32 and Craig Lapping picked up three wickets for a single run.

Skipper Andrew Lapping said: “It’s great that we can go into the final game with our destiny very much in our own hands. It’s down to us to hold our nerve now, if we do, we’ll get our just rewards.”

Gary Farley hit 66 as Kentisbeare II went down by six wicket to visiting Uplyme and Lyme Regis II who closed out victory on 131-4 after bowling the home side out for 130.

There was no play between Exmouth III and Axminster III owing to waterlogged Newton Poppleford pitch
