THE Dumplings were foiled by several interruptions due to rain after a stunning innings by Jaz Kalsi had propelled them to a declaration total of 312 for 5 in just 47 overs against UCS Old Boys at Instow.
The Dumplings were put in to bat by the Old Boys and Kalsi and skipper Gareth Tidball (43) launched the innings with a stand of 114.
Aided by contributions from Jake Luffman (21), Keith Barlow (27) and Richard Ashworth (26) Kalsi went on to amass a not out score of 172 before the declaration came.
The Old Boys reply lagged behind the asking rate as Rob Mutch picked up three wickets for 32 runs but the Dumplings were frustrated by three rain breaks which limited the number of overs bowled to only 41.
Uniquely, the Dumplings team contained two women, Clara Neilson and Clare Reynolds, both from the Hatherleigh club, and each took two wickets as the visitors chase faltered.
The Old Boys number eleven had to survive the last ball of the match to earn a draw with nine wickets down.
