D Division West: Kerswell stumble on title run in

 D DIVISION WEST

KINGSKERSWELL slipped on the brink of promotion when they were 45-run losers so Plymouth, but should get the last two points they need this Saturday when Plympton are their guests.

Mickey Noble (4-16) and Erik Gregerson (3-37) were on top form as Kerswell kept Plymouth to 129 for eight.

Kerswell were bowled out in turn for 84 with Noble (13no) making the only double-figure score.

Torquay administered a 104-run hiding to Chagford to retain a mathematical chance of catching Kerswell.

Josh Hunt (56() and Matt McCann (41no) were Torquay’s main run getters in a total of 202 for five.

Terry King (4-22) and Antony Nadal (3-36) skittled Chagford for 98. Only West Indian Commonwealth Games cricketer Prakash Joshi with 38 was able to resist.

Ashburton 2nd XI had a tough  time at Cockington where they lost in a low-scoring affair.

Cockington were bowled out for 112 with Will Coon taking 3-19.

A sharp run out by Jason Van De Wetering accounted for Keith Francis (12) and poor Brian Burrows had a similar fate without facing a ball.

Wickets fell steadily until Joe Chamberlain swung the bat for a bright 35 coming in at number seven. Facing an all-out score of 112, Ashes must have fancied their chances at tea.

The reply was equally difficult for the Ashes batsmen. James Howrihane (3-21), Jack Allen (3-32) and John Stanlake (3-21) ran through the order.

There were brief moments when Matt Coon (23) and Chris Yeo (24) were at the wicket but it did not last long enough. An all out total of 82 and victory for Cockington by 30 runs.

Ashburton are at home to Plymouth IV on Saturday. Cockington face Torquay looking for the handful of points they need to be sure of dodging relegation.
