Wyatt-Haines leads South & West at Bunbury

Sam Wyatt-Haines has been selected to captain the South and West England under 15 side at the prestigious Bunbury Festival being held at Monmouth School from July 25th to the 29th. On the 27th July they compete in a Twenty20 competition at the Cardiff’s Test Ground the SWALEC Stadium. Wyatt-Haines, a top order batsman, plays his club cricket at Bovey Tracey and has represented Devon at all youth levels, apart from sixteen’s, up to the nineteen’s. Subject to his availability he will be making it a full house before the end of the summer. He captainted the Development squad that toured South Africa in February leading the batting with an average of 37.6 and a top score of 109.

Sam said ‘I was really delighted just to have been picked, but to captain the regional team as well is a great honour. The Festival is just a week away and I can’t wait to get playing. I am very grateful to
Devon Cricket for all the support they have given me over the years and as a result the chance to play at this level of competition’

Wyatt-Haines follows in his current under 17s coach, Matt Wood, footsteps in leading the Bunbury under 15 squad. This is a golden period for Devon youth cricket with Lewis Gregory, Chris Metters and Adam Dibble all making their first class debuts this summer, the Overton Twins involved in the England under 19 set up  and Tavistocks Michael Cousens also working with the England Performance Squad at Loughborough. Cousens, before being sidelined by an injury, was Wyatt-Haines South and West's predecessor as captain in 2010.
