Maher cracks double ton against Victoria Park

STAY IN NORTH DEVON LEAGUE

TABLES

WEEK eight of the Stay in Devon North Devon Cricket League was hit by the weather with only two of the 13 fixtures scheduled for the first Sunday of June seeing action and neither made it across the finishing line!

It means that after eight weeks of the campaign of the 105 games scheduled no fewer than 37 have been called off!

The furthest they got in terms of action was in Mid Devon where Division Two leaders Halberton switched their fixture at Victoria Park to their Sampford Peverell home and powered their way to 350-4 with overseas star Greg Maher cracking his second Sunday ton of the year, this time notching a double century before retiring unbeaten on 201. Victoria Park were 77-6 when then rains arrived to wash any chance of a finish away.

They got limited action in the First Division game at North Devon where the home side were 127-7 against Bideford when they finally gave in to the worsening weather conditions.

No play was possible in the top flight game at Newton Tracey where Braunton were the visitors or at Filleigh where Sandford were due to play.

The Division Two games at Beaford (versus Incorrigibles) and Shebbear (versus Weare Giffard) were washed out.

There was no action in any of the four Division Four matches that were on the fixture lost and now over a quarter of that division’s games have now met a weather enforced grave!

Not a ball was bowled amongst the three Division Five games and that means that the bottom division has now been hit with the most cancelled matches to date across the five divisions. Ten of the 25 matches that were scheduled so far have been cancelled!

Filleigh IIIs have suffered more than most, losing four of their six so far to then weather and new boys Dulverton have also been hit with four rained off to date.

Barnstaple & Pilton II have been laid up in three of their seven so far whilst just two teams, Halberton and Victoria Park 1st XI have yet to have wash-outs.
