A Divison - Bryan sets seven-win target
PAIGNTON captain Connor Bryan is confident his side can overhaul Sandford and clinch promotion this season.

Paignton visit Creedy Park tomorrow just a point behind second-placed Sandford with seven games to go.

Byran isn’t shy about stating Paignton’s objectives for the season ahead – winning every game.

“We will be we are aiming for seven wins out of seven and with the form we are finding ourselves in at the moment I can see us giving that a good shot,” said Bryan.

“As a team know what we have to produce in order to win games and we have the squad that is able to do so.

“I have every faith that we will get promoted.”

Barton, only eight points behind Paignton in fourth place, are unbeaten in five starts heading into tomorrow’s tussle with Plympton.

With seven games to go our target is to keep playing hard cricket and continue to be difficult to beat,” said captain Adam Parker.

“We have won five in a row now and our first target has to be to make that six this Saturday.

“We know that we will have to play some really good cricket to make that happen against Plympton.”

Team news is that batter Andy Hele and all-rounderTom Drake come back.

Plympton, 12 points further back in fifth place, haven’t quite lived up to their pre-season billing as promotion material.

Skipper Jeremy Williams said he hasn’t given up, but sees obstacles in the way of a late surge.

“We are simply taking each game as it comes,” said Williams.

“Realistically, we are struggling to get the same team playing week in week out, so making a push towards the top of the league may be a bit ambitious. We will wait and see.

“Barton are the in form team in the league so they will be confident that they can get a result we will have to be on top of our game to stop them and come away with the points we need.”

Plympton show two changes to last week, Josh Mailing and James Carr are unavailable so in come Dave Wrench and there is a a debut for 15-year-old left-arm seamer Dom Mulberry.

Elsewhere in the A Division tomorrow, Brixham host Braunton, Hatherleigh are at home to Heathcoat and Plymstock entertain Abbotskerswell.

Plymstock are expected to ask Abbots to join them before the game in observing a minute’s silence in memory of Barry Watts, who died this week following an accident in his home.

Watts joined Plymstock Cricket Club in the early 1970s, was a cricket coach and ran the cricket club colts for many years. Barry was 2nd XI captain for several years and was a fine medium-pace bowler and hard-hitting lower-order batsmen.

In the 1980’s Plymstock carried out major alterations to the clubhouse and Watts was instrumental in organising much of the work.

He became chairman of the club for many years and had only recently vacated his position as Vice Chairman because of his involvement with Staddon Heights Golf Club where he was to become club captain in 2014.

Adrian Pate, president of Plymstock Cricket Club said: “Barry was a true and loyal friend and will be missed beyond words by the cricket club and all who were fortunate enough to know him.”
