Devon seven down at lunch against Wiltshire

RHYS Davies maintained his record of scoring a half-century in every game he has played for Devon with another one.

Davies was out for 51 shortly before lunch as Devon made inroads into Wiltshire’s total of 357 all out at Exmouth.

At lunch, taken after 51 over, Devon were 185 for seven having resumed overnight on 53 for three.

Nightwatchman Chris Bradley was first to go in the morning session, snared lbw by Tahir Afridi to the second ball of the day for two runs added.

Matt Thompson, 20 not out overnight. Reached 34 before he was given out lbw to seamer Jake Roberts.

Thompson’s demise brought Davies out to join skipper Josh Bess with Devon a worrying 73 for five.

A stand of 103 between Davies and Bess took Devon to 176 in 22 overs before it was broken when Davies edged a delivery from spinner Joe King to keeper Steve Bullen. It was Davies fourth Devon 50 this season.

Bess was the last man out before lunch caught under the helmet at short-leg by first-day centurion Toby Davies off Tom Bowler.

Sandy Allen and Matt Golding saw Devon through to lunch without further incident.
