PLYMSTOCK captain James Nichols remains convinced his side can mount a serious promotion push.
A ten-run win over Shobrooke Park last time out was Plymstock’s third in a row and puts them within 20 points of second-placed Thorverton.
Plymstock have Thorverton and Ivybridge (4th) to play yet – 44 pointers both times – and bottom two Barnstaple and Stoke Gabriel.
Nichols said Plymstock have ironed out a few flaws in their game and are seeing the benefits.
“We've caught up again and are really pushing now,” said Nichols.
“Our batting now has partnerships and builds platforms and our bowling has been brilliant.”
Plymstock, who had to manage without injured Aussie Dean Fulco, made 203 or seven with Scot Mansfield (61) and Nichols (57) leading the way with a century stand.
Twenty-odds from Teddy Richards, Jason Williams and Dave Orchard kept the board ticking round.
Pick of the bowlers for Shobrooke with three for 37 was skipper Phil Anning.
Shobrooke made a decent attempt to chase down the runs, but lacked a big score from someone to hang the chase on.
Anning (31) and Chris Simpson (36) threatened, but once Anning was fourth out on 119 the game swung Plymstock’s way.
Orchard had three for 25 and Nichols picked up two for 34, but there was more to the bowling effort than their figures.
Said Nichols” ‘Morgan Parkinson bowled tightly at the start, Ian Whalley was as tidy as ever but didn't have much luck
“Our fielding also perked up and we took some excellent catches to beat a very good team with a lot of depth.”
Anning didn’t target promotion this term. Having only just stayed up last summer, consolidation and improvement was the main aim.“We will carry on enjoying our cricket and blooding some of the younger players to prepare them for future challenges,” said Anning.
Shobrooke are away to Stoke Gabriel this week.
