BRADNINCH are back on top of the A Division for the first time since mid-June after routing Brixham by six wickets.
Plympton, who were top, lost at Hatherleigh, which allowed Bradninch to go past them, but not by much.
There is only six points in it between Bradninch (202pts) and Plympton (196) with Paignton (195) and Budleigh (185) still in sight.
Bradinch play Paignton this Saturday at Queens Park and have Budleigh in the last day of the season.
As Budleigh still have Paignton to play, as do Plympton, a grandstand finish to the season seems assured as the top four battle it out.
“It's nice to be back on top of the table,” said skipper Tim Piper. “I've made it quite clear all season that I think Bradninch are too strong for the division.
“We still need to prove that over the next few weeks. The club is confident we can.
“Paignton away are next for us. It will be one of the tougher games of the season. They're a good all round team so we look forward to a decent match.”
George Northcott hit a top score of 66 for Brixham, who made 202 for seven in full 50-over game.
After opener Chris Sleep made 22 – he and Northcott put on 68 for the second wicket – Brixham were pegged back until the last 10 overs then they started to up the tempo a little.
Andy Pugh made 22 and there were bits and pieces from a number of contributors, including Mark Orchard (14), Craig Eaves (17no) and Jordan Gregory (16).
Bradninch spinner Will Squire sent a reminder to the Devon selectors who left him out of the game against Shropshire finishing today (Tuesday) by taking four for 39.
“Jack Horton and Paul Nott were extremely economical with the ball and Will Squire was back to somewhere near his best in the middle overs,” said Piper.
“Our bowlers seem to be getting better and better throughout the year.”
The Bradninch chase was set up by Greg Maher (32) and Joe Webb, who put on 68 for the second wicket as the visitors reached 96 for two.
Dan Hardy (32no) and Webb just about broke the back of the chase by rattling along to 172 for three,
Webb was eventually out for 76 off 88 balls including 10 fours and a six.
Hardy closed the game out with Tim Piper and Giann Botha (14no).
Piper said “Joe Webb batted excellently on a very bowler -friendly wicket and showed what he really can do.
“Greg Maher and Dan Hardy did the rest of the hard work with the bat.”
