Plymstock on march warns Nichols

PLYMSTOCK skipper James Nichols has warned the teams above his side to watch their backs as his men are on the march.

Plymstock are up to fifth in the table thanks to a fourth straight win, this time by 45 runs over visiting Barnstaple & Pilton

There remains a 22-point gap to make up on second-placed Bideford – and 31 points between Plymstock and leaders Tavistock.

They are just numbers to Nichols, who is confident in his team’s ability to go all the way.

“I knew once out batting clicked we would start winning matches – and it is clicking right now,” said Nichols.

“If we get more than 200-225 on the board batting first it will take a good side to beat us as our spinners will just tie them down.

“Orchard and Whalley are doing a great job – and three of our last four games are at home.

“Conditions suit spinners at our place so we have a huge advantage for the run in.”

Dean Fulco made up for missing the last game due to injury with a top score of 69 in Plymstock’s 226 for nine.

Teddy Richards (40) and Fulco put on 80 and when the latter was fifth out on 161 Scott Mansfield cracked a quick 32.

Pick of the bowlers for B&P were Steve Moore (2-19) and Paul Schiller (2-30).

Barnstaple were at a disadvantage before they went out as they had five overs docked for turning up late.

With 17 overs to go B&P were still in it at 104 for four – Tom Popham (64) and Brady Saunders (27) among the runs – then Nichols turned to his spinners.

Orchard took two for 31 off nine and Whalley finished with four for 44 as B&P were limited to 181 for eight in reply.
