Stoke spring shock on Shobrooke

SHOBROOKE Park came a cropper by 130 runs at Stoke Gabriel, which seems to have ended their promotion hopes once and for all.

Stoke Gabriel are already resigned to relegation, but like many teams before them in similar situations are now free to play without any pressure.

Stoke’s batters certainly did that as they cracked along to 257 for six, led by new boy Gerhard Erasmus with 65.

Erasmus, a Namibian international, featured in a fifth-wicket stand of 105 with Seb Ansley (61) that had Shobrooke’s bowlers rocking.

Dave Bolland chipped in with 45 not out at the end.

Only Nick Prell of the Shobrooke bowlers (2-45) had much success with the ball.

Shobrooke were all out in reply for 127 – sent packing by Ansley (3-31) and Bolland (3-15) with help from skipper Jack Tolley (2-24).

Dan Pyle made 22 as Shobrooke reached 50 for three before collapsing to 74 for eight.

Ben Trenaman’s 23 came too late in the day to change a thing.

Shobrooke are now 30 points behind second-placed Bideford going into this Saturday’s derby clash away at Thorverton.
