Exmouth's Daniel Pyle broke Matt Cooke's record for the
highest individual score in Devon Youth Cricket. Pyle scored a sublime and
almost surreal 241 against Hampshire on the 14th August 2015. Cooke's
previous highest score of 201 not out had stood since 2005. Pyle batted for two
hundred and fifty-eight minutes, faced two hundred and twenty-four balls
striking thirty fours and ten sixes. He was out on the final ball of his sides ninety-second
and final over as he was intending to declare caught on the long on boundary.
He was at the crease as his sides score rose from twenty-three to another new
youth record 451. He featured in a stand of one hundred and ninety-two with
under fifteen captain Tom Lammonby. This was the counties sixth highest
partnership at seventeens, the second highest for the fifth wicket, seventy-five
short of Ben Green and Dan Powell's record. The side batted for ninety-two overs
and Pyle gave his opponents one hundred and fourteen overs to win on first innings. At 292-7
this outcome seemed the least likely but in an astonishing game of cricket Hampshire
needed seventeen runs off the last over. Dan Goodey was recalled to bowl it and
after two balls the target was down to seven! Goodey then amazingly bowled four
dots. A truly memorable game. Full report to follow. Scorecard
