BUDLEIGH Salterton captain Lloyd White is relishing the chance to have a crack at Brixham this Saturday in the A Division match of the day.
Brixham were unbeaten at the top of the table before losing to Cornwood by one wicket last time out. They are still top, but their lead over second-placed Budleigh is down to 14 points.
“We are full of optimism and confidence and will be doing our uppermost to peg Brixham back as much as possible,” said White.
“The table never lies and we respect that they are top of the table for a reason.
“We certainly won't be fearful of them and will continue to play the exciting brand of cricket which has been seen the 1st XI win seven games in a row.”
“The next four weeks will determine our season and its in our hands as to how we go.”
Budleigh warmed up for a Brixham with a 47-run win at Lewdown.
Budleigh’s batting was solid at the top with Andy Procter (22), Lloyd White (29) and Cephas Zhuwao (45) making early runs.
Seventh-wicket pair Sam Richardson (42) and Joel Murphy (34) added 70 to the final product of 234 all out. Forty-four extras helped.
Lewdown raced to 50 in the first eight overs through Harry Geering (33) and Billy Searle.
Murphy (3-44), Zhuwao (2-32) and Andy Procter, who opened the bowling with spin, started to work through the order.
Searle was last man out for 88 in a Lewdown total of 187.

“We need to win, catch catches and not conduct ourselves as U13s,” said Pugh
SANDFORD will parade two debutants when they visit Tavistock.
Keeper batter Josh Cann will make debut this week after registration issues delayed his arrival from Honiton by a week.
Batsman Tom Gidney comes in after good scores in the 2nd XI.
Gidney plays first claim for non-league Chulmleigh, but has joined Sandford looking for more competitive cricket.
Ash Baker and Charles Fitzroy also return.
Sandford beat Bideford by 95 runs last time out and skipper Jamie Palmer is keen for more of the same.
“I am looking for us to continue on from last week, playing aggressive cricket,” said Palmer.
“Tavistock have had some good results so far this season and will give us a very tough game.”
Tavistock make a clutch of enforced changes as Dave Ball is missing as are Rob Milligan and Danny Goldstone.
Dave Manning is back in, keeping and batting, and so is opener Dom Scaglioni.
Seamer Chris Hutchins will take the new ball.
Devon U13 batsman James White gets a go in the side.
“It's a great opportunity for James, who has scored a lot of runs this season and is a real talent for the future,” said skipper Shaun Daymond.
Tavvy came up this season and need to do a bit more to avoid a prompt return to the B Division.
“We really need to pick up a win or two early in this second half and make sure we keep that gap on the bottom two,” said Daymond.
“Sandford will be a good side and we expect a tough game as is every game in this division.”
BRADNINCH are will be disappointed not to come back with a win from bottom side Bideford.
Atfter running promotion-chasers Cornwood close two weeks ago, Bradninch spanked Hatherleigh by eight wickets last Saturday.
“We want to maintain the momentum we have attained recently,” said skipper Dan Hardy.
All-rounder Charlie Walker is back from illness in a full-strength side.
Bideford team news is Matt Shepard, Will Barratt , Alex Hannam and Mike Lemmings all come back in after missing the Sandford defeat.
Josh Atkinson is unavailable.
