First win for Bideford in A Division

AT last! Bideford are off the mark in the A Division thanks to a 78-run win at Barton.

Bideford had played nine games prior to meeting Barton - and lost the lot.

Winning doesn’t alter Bideford’s position at the bottom of the table. But the gap to safety is down to 40 points which at least gives them some hope of staying up.

It was looking like more of the same for Bideford as they dipped from 63 for one to 123 for seven.

Skipper James Ford and Josh Roach (31) scored most of the runs before going one after the other on 63 to Tom Porter and Tom Drake respectively.

Paul Heard was run out for 23 on 96 and the slide started again.

The rot stopped with Matt Shepherd and Fred King, who put on 56 for the eighth wicket.

What was remarkable about the stand was that King only scored one run! Shepherd made 43 and the rest were extras.

Shepherd went on to make 63 off 44 balls with eight fours and four sixes.

Barton were all out for 129 in reply – Drake (24) just pipping Steve Lewis (23) for top scorer.

Heard (3-21) did the initial damage, King and Alex Hannam chipped in the Mike Lemmings scythed through the tail as Barton went from 125 for five to 129 all out.

Lemmings took four for four in 4.1 overs.
