TAVISTOCK captain Shaun Daymond said the difference between winning and losing can be a fine one – as Brixham showed in a 35-run defeat.
Brixham made 236 for seven at Boundary Park – Stuart Edgar and Mark Orchard joint top scorers on 55 – then held Tavistock to 201 for nine in reply. Dave Ball made 98.
At first glance it is a respectable performance by a side near the bottom against the joint leaders.
But when you are in the bottom two and trying to get out, as Tavvy are now, respectable isn’t good enough.
“We bowled ok, not our best but 237 to win on that pitch was not bad at all,” said Daymond.
“We batted well but struggled to get in front of the scoreboard.
“Brixham set good fields, bowled with discipline and we found it hard to kick on, although Dave ball batted exceptionally.
“We are improving week by week but we need to change these small margins that cost us.”
Edgar and Tim Robinson (31) opened up with an 80-run stand for Brixham.
Jay Stevens (2-36) got the wicket of dangerous Matt McGillivray for 18 when he had his fellow South African caught behind.
Mark Orchard chipped in with 55 in the middle order.
Jamie Stephens bowled a controlled spell of spin to claim two for 28.
Tavistock went off in hot pursuit to 157 for one with Ball and Daymond (37) leading the way.
Ball was caught on the boundary having a go at McGillivray (2-20) and when big hitter Dave Manning went cheaply to Mike Meech soon after the power struggle shifted.
Edgar went on to take five for 59 as the Tavvy chase ran out of steam.
