BRIXHAM stay out in front at the top of the A Division after dispatching Barton by 112 runs in the big Bay derby.
Matt McGillivray clouted 113 off 111 balls in Brixham’s total of 255 for eight.
Lee Upham picked up four wickets and there were two each for Rhys Dallow and Stuart Edgar as Barton were bowled out for 143 in reply.
Victory leaves Brixham a point clear of Cornwood with six games to go. The gap between Brixham and Budleigh in third place is 31 points, which means two or three more wins should guarantee a promotion place.
As for Barton they are now looking at staying up rather than going up. This defeat drops them to fourth bottom, 19 points ahead of Lewdown in the second promotion place.
McGillivray went in midway through the fifth over after Brixham lost opener Tim Robinson, and was last out in the 46th with the score on 218 for eight.
Along the way he put on 34 with Stuart Edgar, 55 with Mark Orchard (23), 66 with Josh Hunt (22) and 26 with Craig Eaves.
Dallow (17) and Joel Ashworth (21no) rattled up 37 unbroken in the last four and half overs.
It was McGillivray’s first ton for Brixham after five 50s in 10 previous games and near misses of 94 against Cornwood and 95 in the match against Bideford.
Barton were in early trouble at eight for two, recovered while Mark Gilmour (41) and Tom Drake (25) were together, then plummeted from 79 for two to 79 for six in five balls.
Gilmour and Shaun Needham went in successive balls to Dallow in the only over he bowled, then Upham got Drake and Aqeel Ahmed two balls apart. Game over.
Adrian Hewings – not for the first time this season either – made runs down the order but this was a lost cause. Hewings (23), Tom Porter and Andy Hele delayed the inevitable long enough to scrape up two batting bonus points.
Upham finished with four for 37. Dallow (2-6) and Edgar (2-14) were the supporting acts.
