BRAUNTON are stuck fast in the B Division basement slot following an eight-wicket defeat by Chudleigh.
A total of 90 all out was never going to be enough to trouble Chudleigh unduly and they cruised to victory inside 27 overs.
In a division with three relegation places, Braunton are 43 points adrift of safety and look to have a job on their hands.
Braunton opener Rob Collier faced 70 balls in 102 minutes for his 17.
Matt Smith made 20 – he and Collier put on 25 to rescue Braunton from the depths of nine for four – and there was a stand of 34 between Collier and Iain Bond (12).
Dan Brierley chivvied the score along with a quick 20 off 22 balls at the end.
Faisel Khaliq did the early damage on his way to figures of five for 21.
Will Heather (2-4) chipped in and Rob Clarke’s two for 21 included Collier, who was seventh out on 68.
Chudleigh lost opener and captain Ed Foreman to a Matt Smith caught and bowled with the score in 15.
Matt Heather (15) and Mark Solway (42no) took the tally up to 52. Will Heather (16no) was the other not-out batter when the total was passed.
“Everyone was disappointed when I lost the toss on a good wicket, but Faisel had other ideas,” said skipper Ed Foreman.
“He bowled really well and was backed up excellently by Hugh Stronge with the new ball.
“Heather and Clarke were excellent as always and picked up the wickets at the end.
“Braunton had been making good scores, so it was really impressive to bowl them out for less that 100.
“I hope we can continue to bowl like that for the rest of the season and make good use of the new ball.”
