Cornwood through to face Barton in cup last four

CHUDLEIGH’S Booker Wholesale Devon Cup adventure ended on Sunday when they dipped out by six wickets to Cornwood.

Cornwood paid Chudleigh the compliment of fielding a virtually full-strength side against them with only two changes from the Saturday league team that thumped Budleigh Salterton.

Chudleigh’s batters almost all got in, got a start and got out without going on to make a sizeable score.

Matt Heather made 21 and Rob Clarke 23 in a 40-over total of 128 for six.

The bowling was on the mean side with Adam Goodliffe bowling eight overs for 15 runs, Craig James going for 16 and Andrew Bees for 18.

Cornwood were quickly out of the blocks with Jackson Thompson thumping 75 off 65 balls.

Faisel Khaliq picked up a couple of wickets and Will Heather removed Thompson, but it was too late by then as the target was down to 11.

Cornwood will play Barton in the semi-finals.

Sidmouth were allowed to re-arrange their quarter-final with Bradninch for this Sunday as they had players on county duty with Devon.

Sidmouth skipper Will Murray said Bradninch are a potential banana skin for the holders.

“Their league form his been pretty good recently, helped by Ross Acton and Dan Hardy both being in good form,” said Murray.

“Add in Chris Metters (ex-Warwickshire and Devon) and Charlie Walker (ex-MCC Young Cricketers) and Bradninch have a very capable side.”

Budleigh Salterton’s match against Plymouth is also being played on Sunday.

Plymouth or Budleigh will entertain Sidmouth or Bradninch in the last four, provisionally fixed for Sunday, August 9.
