Basement rivals meet in cruncher at Queens Park

EXETER are under pressure to get a win at Queens Park in the basement clash with Paignton.

The County Grounders slipped into the bottom two last time out when they were beaten by Torquay and fellow strugglers Plymouth won at Paignton to move ahead of them.

In the logjam to avoid finishing second from bottom Exeter (101pts) are fighting to get past Plymouth (108) and Paignton (117) to reach safety.

Miles Lenygon, the Exeter captain, said: “We know the significance of the game and the guys are up for it.”

Opposite number Connor Bryan said Lenygon wasn’t the only one targeting the game.

“It is a big weekend for us and we know it,” said Bryan.

“We will be going into the game looking for nothing less than 20 points.

“We have the ability and strength in depth throughout the squad to do so.”

Torquay racked up 231 all out against Exeter them bowled them out for 118.

Lenygon said Exeter didn’t play as badly as the scoreline might suggest.

“Losing the toss certainly had an impact, but full credit to Torquay for the way they played,” said Lenygon.

“They bowled very accurately, took every half chance and their ground fielding was brilliant.

“Our batting can get smarter, but with the ball and in the field we were ok.

“Torquay are a very strong, all-round outfit. I think they will win the league.”
