Torquay the side under pressure claims North Devon skipper

NORTH Devon skipper Barney Huxtable says there is no pressure on his side going into the top-of-the-table clash with Torquay at Instow.

North Devon were the rival captains’ tip pre-season to wrestle the Premier title away from Sidmouth – if anyone was going to do it.

Although Huxtable had recruited well, North Devon were turned over by Heathcoat first time out, which shocked a few pundits.

North Devon have been there or thereabouts all season and hit the top in week seven – admittedly jointly with Torquay.

What North Devon haven’t done is win week in and week out, which is why Torquay are 13 points clear second-placed Sidmouth and 21 up on North Devon in third.

Huxtable still harbors title hopes, but accepts there is a lot to do in the final six weeks.

I feel it's a bigger game for Torquay than it is for us,” said Huxtable (left).

“We are the underdogs and to win the league we will have to win every single game including beating Torquay and Sidmouth which will be very hard, although I am not crossing us out at all.

“Our aim is to go out enjoy our cricket and play the best we can together without putting any added pressure on ourselves.

“We are at full strength and have a few players in the side who are due some big runs.

“It will be a great battle and we are looking forward to it.”

Opposite number Justin Yau said on the title run-in the big games keep coming.

“This is a huge game and each one gets bigger and bigger from here on in,” said Yau.

“North Devon have quality throughout their side and we expect them to prove to be a stern test.

“We will go to Instow with confidence and we will keep enjoying our cricket.

“We are going very well at the moment and it would be great to go five from five.”

Joe Crooks replaces Oli Pitts.
