Topsham all covered up thanks to Waitrose/ECB grant

TOPSHAM St James won’t have to worry so much about rain stopping play now they have a new set of covers.

The club has tapped into a facilities grant fund run by the ECB and supported by Waitrose.

The funding forms part of the England and Wales Cricket Trust Small Grant Scheme, which creates a sustainable future for affiliated cricket clubs through improvements to their facilities.

The Trust made a grant of £3,000 towards the cost of the roll-on, roll-off covers.

Mike Tracey, the TSJ chairman, said: “We are really delighted to receive this grant to enable us to buy covers which would otherwise have proved to be too expensive a project.”

Waitrose, the England team sponsor, supported the scheme by pledging £100 for every four or six scored across the entire home international summer in 2014.

The company will be doing the same thing this year to keep the fund topped up for 2-16.

Charles Johnston, director of property at Sport England, said: “We’re pleased to support the ECB in its Small Grants Scheme.

“We know people have a better experience of sport when they have good playing facilities.

“This scheme enables clubs to provide more regular opportunities for practice, matches and social activities, benefitting the local community.”
