Mansfield looking to sign out with a win

PLYMSTOCK go into the derby clash with Ivybridge looking for a bounce-back win after the defeat by Thorverton.

Plymstock dropped from second to fourth in the wake of the defeat, but with 11 points between the top four it remains wide open.

“After such a great run of wins to taste defeat last time out against Thorverton is a feeling we don't want to get use to,” said skipper Scott Mansfield.

“I'd like to think of it as a wake up call for us just in time for a run of massive games as the season really starts to hot up with any number of teams being in with a shout of promotion.”

All rounder Ian Whalley away on holiday and wicket-keeper Teddy Richards is attending a stag weekend so both miss out.

Coming in is Syed Ali, who is back from work-related travels, and Matt Mackey comes in the bolster the batting.

Mansfield is missing for the rest of the season after this game for work reasons.

He wants a win to finish, but is a little wary of Ivybridge.

“We know what Ivybridge bring and as you speak to other opposing teams it's normally a different name that each team see as a threat, which shows their strength in depth,” said Mansfield.

“So we know it'll be tough, as it normally is.”

CHUDLEIGH will be trying to protect their two-point lead at the top of the B Division table when they go to Axminster.

The Kate Brook outfit shunted Ipplepen off the top last time by beating them by 47 runs.

It’s all change at the top now with Chudleigh the new leaders, by two points from Ipplepen. Plymstock dropped back to third after losing to Thorverton with Shobrooke Park now fourth following a win over Abbotskerswell.

With only 11 points between all four at the top, it could change again this Saturday.

SHOBROOKE Park, away to Braunton this Saturday, got back in business after two defeats with a six-wicket win over Abbotskerswell.

Abbots slumped to 30 for six under pressure from Andrew Codling and Dylan Blignaut.

Blignaut had three wickets, but it was keeper Codling who did the most damage.

Codling took the pads off to bowl and seamed his way to five wickets for 21 runs.

Shobrooke didn’t have it all their own way as Devon Lions seamer Hugo Whitlock (2-7) kept them honest. Anchorman Chris Ford, veteran left-hander Richard Pyle (26no) and Andy Steer (27no) got them over the line in the end having been a nervy 30 for four in reply.

SOUTH Devon profited in a small way from Abbots losing as it allowed them to climb past their near neighbours on bonus points earned in the two-run defeat by Ivybridge.

Only four points separate South Devon and Chudleigh and that will change this Saturday when the two sides clash at Two Mile Oak.

South Devon were a whisker away from a win last Saturday against Ivybridge, who clocked up 286 for five.

Neil Hancock clattered 138 off 76 balls as South Devon went off like a rocket and with Sean Day making 50 they were 273 for five with nearly four overs to go.

The last five wickets went for just 11 runs added to give Ivybridge an unlikely win.

South Devon are going to be without opening batsman Mark Andrews, who suffered a broken knuckle in the defeat by Ivybridge.

THORVERTON visit former leaders Ipplepen on Saturday up to fifth after beating Plymstock by four wickets.

Will Denford is back after injury to bolster the attack.

Skipper Graham White has doubts over the availability of opener George Greed, who may have to work.
