Chappell wary of banana-skin factor against Plympton

EXMOUTH skipper Gary Chappell wants to avoid an embarrassing banana skin lying in wait when Plympton visit the Maer.

Plympton know they will be going down and are in danger of doing so without winning a game.

Chappell knows Plympton are playing for pride now and doesn’t want to be on the receiving end of a shock result.”Plympton won't want to go all season without a win, and we don't want to be the guys they do it against,” said Chappell.

“I want to keep on a winning run and finish as high as possible.”

Richard  Baggs and Jon Evennett, who missed the two-wicket win at Paignton, come back into contention.

Paignton are the other side in the bottom two with Plympton and Chappell said beating them was hard work.

“I lost an important toss on a very dry and crumbling wicket,” said Chappell.

“We bowled very well and they got to 210 with a fair amount of runs courtesy of edges and pressure-release shots to the 45-yard boundary.

“It was a very good score given the conditions.

“Sandy Allen batted superbly for his 84, with useful partnerships along the way to get us close, then Marques Clarke smashed a quick 30 at the end to get us over the line.”

Plympton fought to the end at North Devon last time out and won’t  roll over without a fuss.

“The lads showed some good spirit last week as we could have been all out for 70,” said Plympton captain James Carr.

“Even though we have lost every game apart from the tie with Plymouth the second half of the season, we feel we have done better and shown some fight, which is all you can ask

“Looking forward to Saturday as Exmouth is a cracking place to play cricket.”

Out are Duncan Hefford, who cannot travel, and injured keeper Dan Robotham.

Ross Farrer comes in to keep – which costs Carr a spin-bowling option – and Dave Wrench is in for Hefford.
