Exmouth's T20 national showdown switched to Cranleigh

EXMOUTH’S NatWest T20 Club Championship regional final away to Wimbledon has been switched to a different venue.

Exmouth travel to Surrey on Sunday for the last-eight clash, but to Cranleigh near Guildford and now the leafy suburbs of south-west Lopndon.

Wimbledon’s ground is required for the final of the Cricketer Cup on the same day. The hosts either had to find another venue, or agree to switch the game to Exmouth.

Richard Butler, the Exmouth chairman, said: “It has been a logistical nightmare.

“We only knew on Monday where the game would be played, so all our arrangements for transport, accommodation and publicity have been put on hold while Wimbledon looked for an alternative ground.

“They did ask to switch dates to August 3, but as this is the date reserved for a rain-affected match on the 16th and is not in the competition rules we were unable to agree.”

Exmouth hope as many supporters as possible will be able to make the trip to cheer the team on. Further details are available from Club Secretary Paul Corder on 01395 273629

Exmouth CC are playing Torquay away on Saturday and have asked the Devon League to sanction an early start.

Torquay captain Justin Yau has agreed to the switch and wished Exmouth all the best.

“It is good for cricket in Devon for our teams to do well in national competitions – and it would be great to see Exmouth on the television,” said Yau.

Victory will see Exmouth through to a date on Sky TV for the National Club T20 Finals on September 1 at the Swalec Stadium , Cardiff.

It is a busy weekend for the Maer Club as the U13s will be playing in the East Devon Cup Finals at Heathcoat on Sunday.

The first game will be against Ottery St Mary at 10am. Exeter and Sidmouth play next with the final in the late afternoon.
