Babbacombe still in promotion contention

BABBACOMBE aren’t out of the play-off picture just yet after dispatching Kingsbridge by seven wickets.

Kingsbridge have won five of their last seven starts to get away from the danger end of the table and at 85 for three against Babbacombe were looking to post a decent total.

James Ford had made 38 and there was plenty of batting to come.

The rot set in during the time it took Kingsbridge to slip from 101 for four to 106 for eight.

Cameron Fryer (2-16) backed up Marcus Tanton (4-21) knocking over the wickets.

Kingsbridge’s total of 130 was going to take some defending – and veteran seamer Neal Peach – six overs for nine runs – gave it a go.

A third wicket stand of 100 between Fryer (42) and Mike Pugh (54no) put Babbacombe in the clear.

Babbacombe are three points behind second-placed Bridestowe with two games to snatch the play-off spot.

They need a win over Stoke Gabriel at Walls Hill this Saturday and a similar result at Chagford on the last day of the campaign.
